Finding a Focus for my Blog After a Five Year Break

Finding a Focus for my Blog After a Five Year Break

I came back to the blogosphere a few months ago after taking a break from writing for about five years. When I started blogging Chase was  in elementary school, I stayed home while Grant worked all day and I loved being a mommy blogger because […]

How to Build a Wooden Light Box for Photography

The best blog posts always include amazing photos, especially if you’re a food blogger or post product reviews so I bought this camera, Samsung 14.2MP CMOS Smart WiFi Digital Camera with 18x Optical Zoom and decided to build a wooden light box for photography to help […]

Motivation to Change

Motivation to Change

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” ― Andy Warhol

I’ve sat down a couple of times to write the first post of the made-over Manda Blogs About and stared at the screen for a while before deciding that I needed to connect my Facebook page or update my Google+ circles first. I knew I was procrastinating but told myself it was okay as long as I was doing something productive. Really I just needed to start writing and stop thinking so much about what I was saying.

Over the past few years I’ve grown and made a lot of changes. I made it my mission to get healthy, happy and more effective in everything I was doing. I found the motivation to take care of the health issues that I was avoiding, learned how to say no to people without feeling guilty, registered for classes (again) without backing out at the last-minute, and I got rid of the people in my life that were not trying to grow and change for the better. I know that it is hard to change, but little things lead to big differences. I also know that you cannot change other people but learning how to be mindful of your own feelings and actions can greatly influence the reactions of the people around you. Take the time to work on the relationships that matter to you and walk away from the ones that aren’t important.

The point I want to get across is that you can not be scared to do whatever it is that you need to do to get you closer to where you really want to be in life. In two weeks I’ll start my 3rd year of college. I’ve spent two years working towards a BS in computer information systems and spent hours learning Visual Basic, Java, C++, computer systems analysis and a lot of other really technical stuff that I enjoy doing but have no real passion for. Last week I spent over an hour with my student advisor and made a huge change because I knew it was what I needed to do to be happy and really succeed at meeting my goals. I changed my degree to a BA in business administration and marketing which set me back almost a whole year and added thousands of dollars to my student loans, but I couldn’t be happier. This is what led me back to my blog.

I had so much fun being a mom blogger, but I considered it a hobby. I was introduced to a lot of great people and helped other bloggers get started but I wasn’t at a point in my life where I could see it as the business that it was. I walked away from it because I needed a steady job. I worked for my family’s hardwood flooring business because that was what I was “supposed to do”, but I hated it. I started looking into working from home and doing freelance work helping people with their Ebay stores, setting up blogs and websites, social media  profiles and getting their businesses online. That’s what I really enjoy doing, that’s what I’m passionate about. I want to blog and work around my schedule and help people get their businesses online; so here I am.

Let’s network, share, post, like, tweet and connect. I’ve got a lot to share, and I’m always happy to motivate and help out whoever needs it. I’ll be posting regularly about blogging, Blogger, WordPress, writing, tech stuff, social media, freelancing, work from home, being a mom of a teenager and I’ll also be doing product reviews and hosting giveaways again.
